# Migrate from Zendesk Guide

Source: https://helpcenterkit.com/docs/en/migrate-from-zendesk-guide

The Zendesk Guide importer reads your help center through Zendesk's API and runs in the background.

## Before you start

- Know your help-center address: `acme` for `acme.zendesk.com`, or your own domain such as `help.acme.com`.
- Public articles import without a token. For restricted or draft articles, create an **API token** in Zendesk (*Admin Center → Apps and integrations → Zendesk API*) and have an agent email ready.

## Import

1. Open your knowledge base in HelpCenterKit and choose **Import → Zendesk Guide**.
2. Enter the help center, and optionally a language (for example `en-us`), the agent email and the API token.
3. Tick **Publish imported articles right away**, or leave it off to review them as drafts first.
4. Press **Start import** and wait for the report.

## What comes across

| From Zendesk Guide | In HelpCenterKit |
| --- | --- |
| Categories | Top-level categories |
| Sections and sub-sections | Categories nested under them |
| Articles | Articles in Markdown: headings, lists, tables, code blocks, callouts and links |
| Labels | Tags |
| Draft articles | Drafts (they are never published by the import) |
| Images on Zendesk's servers | Copied into your media library |

The **import report** counts what was converted, how many images were copied, and lists every warning. An image that couldn't be downloaded stays at its old address, so nothing disappears without a warning.

## What doesn't come across

- Other languages: one language per import.
- Comments, votes, subscriptions, user segments and theme templates.

## Old URLs

Download **the old → new URL list (CSV)** from the import report: it pairs each old Zendesk article URL with its new address. If you move your help-center domain to HelpCenterKit, add the old paths under *Snippets & glossary → Redirects*.
